Upcoming Livestock Classes with WSU Regional Small Farms

Interested in raising cattle or chickens? WSU Regional Small Farms is offering several beginner-friendly livestock classes this month for small-scale farmers, backyard growers, and 4-H and FFA members.

Forage and Grazing Nutrition

June 17 | Online | 6:00–7:15 PM

Learn how cattle utilize forages, understand nutritional needs, feed more economically, and develop supplementation strategies that support health and reproductive performance.

Finishing: Grass or Grain

June 23 | Online | 6:00–7:15 PM

Explore the differences between grass- and grain-finishing, how feeding choices affect the end product, and practical guidance for cattle projects. Both cattle classes are taught by Dr. Don Llewellyn, Associate Professor and Livestock Extension Specialist, and are suitable for beginners.

Chicken Care for Beginners

Choose one in-person session:

  • Poulsbo: June 15, 6:00–7:30 PM

  • Port Angeles: June 29, 6:00–8:00 PM

Perfect for anyone considering backyard chickens!

Topics include:

  • Raising chicks

  • When to move chickens outdoors

  • Feeding and supplements

  • Common health concerns

  • Mistakes and misconceptions

  • Resources for continued learning
